As 2014 comes to a close, I think it’s important to look back at how it began. (**Announcement is at the end of this post**)
My “Word of the Year for 2014” was Create. I wrote that blog post on January 20th, before I ever even knew how that month, let alone the year, would end. Our lease in our first location was nearing the end and we weren’t sure if we were staying or not. We didn’t know what would be best for our business and our family. We had no idea what rent would be like or what kind of commitment would be required. We looked at 6 other locations to see if moving could even be an option for us. Do we stay? Do we take a leap of faith? And we flip flopped like that for about 2 months. I was the most reluctant one. My husband was ready for a change. Until the decision was made for us. We were told we had to move. Suddenly our only options were: do we grow or do we die? So even though we had looked at the location where our store is now, we didn’t sign the lease and take possession until February 15th. The biggest opportunity to “create” was suddenly right under our feet, and our biggest transformation to date was about to take place.
Here is what our current retail space looked like when we took possession:
Looking through the “before” photos brought a lot of sighs as I prepared this post because I know how much work went into the space. There were many very late nights, many friends that helped with demolition, building and painting and friends that looked after our kiddos while we worked through the night. We could not have done it without the army we had around us. There was no way! We took the place down to the studs and started over. I had a vision and I’m pleased with the results of all of those months of hard work.
I had no idea my word for 2014 would include our biggest creation yet. Creation of a new space. Creation of a new business. Creation of new relationships. Creation of new opportunities. It has been an incredible ride and most certainly the most stressful year to date. But here we are, about to embark on another exciting year ahead. There will be a lot of changes in 2015 for us personally, as well as in our business and we’re looking forward to sharing all of that with YOU. We appreciate you traveling this journey with us. Your support has been incredible, and patience as posts have been few and far between. That will also change in 2015.
Tomorrow, a new year, I will share “after” photos of our hard work and our retail location. I will also share with you my “Word of the Year for 2015”. It’s a very different word than last year.
Happy New Year to you and yours! May you be safe, healthy, happy and prosperous today and always!
