I don’t know what you did this weekend, but ours was biz-ay! It all began with a rummage sale at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday at a church on our corner. I pulled in the parking lot and, lo and behold, there was an estate sale setting up right across the street. YES! (with a fist pump). I made my way into the rummage sale and made off with some pretty decent finds. I put my goodies in the car and ran across the street to the estate sale to get my name on the list. I went back at 9:00 a.m. and was included with the first group they were letting in. It wasn’t a great sale, but my best find there was an antique ironstone covered vegetable casserole dish with fantastic crazing for $12. Thank you very much!
After all that madness was said and done, we headed out to hit a few garage sales. I wasn’t looking for anything in particular, but we had some errands to run and there seemed to be a garage sale on every street in our neighborhood. We drove by most of them and just when I was ready to say “okay, I’m done”, there was one more house that was selling an item that hit me over the head. I couldn’t believe my eyes, so with the hubby’s permission, it came home with us, on the roof of our car.
Here’s a sneak peek of it:
Can you guess what it is? I promise to show you the rest of it later this week. Geez, I’m so mean!
This weekend, I also made some more chalkboard pots, which are now listed in the Etsy shop,
in sets of 4″ and 6″ pots.
We also got around to making something I’d been wanting to make for months now: a Ball jar soap dispenser for our kitchen sink:
I also waterproofed our chippy farm table trash pick
with Thompson’s WaterSeal Clear Multi-Surface Waterproofer. It says it allows wood to weather naturally which is perfect because even though I want it to continue to weather a little, I don’t want the poor thing to fall apart due to its exposure to the elements. Hopefully, this will help it last a little longer.
Then there’s this little beauty I had to contend with this weekend:
Oh yes. That, my friends, is a 100% wool, 6 foot round rug from India that is currently sitting in our kitchen. I know its origin only because when I trash picked it a couple of weeks ago (I was stopped at a red light and there it was just lying there next to a bunch of trash cans), the tag is still on the back. It even states “Child Labour Free”. Well that’s good! Maybe trash picking is beneath you and that’s fine, but I am amazed at the quality of the items people just throw away. This was one of them. I brought it home and hung it outside to air out for a couple of days. This weekend I finally got around to vacuuming it outside, followed by a thorough steam cleaning, then I continued to let it dry for a couple of days on the clotheslines. I turned it over and scrubbed the bottom with soap and water and left it out to dry for two more days. It’s been quite the process. Unfortunately, the jury is still out on whether we’ll keep it or not, but it’s beautiful, isn’t it?
I also finished a project on Saturday night (I’m so exciting aren’t I?) that’s been sitting around for a couple of months which I’ll be sharing with you tomorrow on Transformation Tuesday. And somewhere in there we managed to go to the pool and attend a carnival. Are you tired yet from reading this because I am!
Now today, I’m off to commence another project that’s been sitting around for a while and it involves these beautiful, antique corbels:
I can’t wait to show you what I’m going to do with them!
Then I’ll be heading to Hobby Lobby this afternoon to shop for a bunch of knobs and drawer pulls for a dresser I’m redoing this week and Fall decor items. Yes, it’s that time of year to start thinking about Fall.
Whew! That’s a lot. And the way I’m feeling today, I think we forgot to put “sleep” on our to do list! Oh well. There’s always tomorrow.
And I can’t end this post without telling you that I’m hosting another giveaway on another amazing blog: Coastal Charm. The giveaway includes a $40 Pottery Barn gift card, so hurry up, get your name on the list and enter for your chance to win!!
