Repurposed Vintage Suitcase

So I finally found something that’s been on my “shopping list” for quite a while.  A small vintage suitcase in excellent condition!!

Sorry.  I had to include a really cute pic of our Golden Retriever snoozing.
She was lying near by when I  was snapping pics of the suitcase and I just couldn’t resist her!
So why would I be so excited about finding a small vintage suitcase, you might be asking?

Well, because I wanted to turn it into a “Welcome to Our Nest” basket for guests!  And I found it just in time because we have family coming to stay with us this weekend, so I wanted it ready before her arrival tonight.

I was originally going to line the suitcase with fabric, but since the interior is in such great shape, I decided to keep the lining exposed.  I did, however, cover the inside stitching with 1 inch grosgrain ribbon in black (with hot glue) just to clean it up a bit.

And yes, I even included a chalkboard.  I purchased a wood one from Joann Fabric and hot glued the same grosgrain ribbon to the edges of the chalkboard, and then hot glued the chalkboard right to the lid.  I added the chalkboard because I’m obsessed with them I wanted to personalize the case for each guest that comes for a visit.

My writing on the chalkboard wasn’t perfect.  I wanted to rewrite it, but I’m trying to let go
a little of my OCD need for perfection in 2013.  I really had to fight it, but it is what it is.
Included in the case: 3 white hand towels, shampoo, conditioner, hand sanitizer, bar of soap, body butter, salt scrub, personal loofah, toothbrushes, Q-tips, toothpaste, pillow mist, hand lotion . . .

. . . and I even included one of the lavender pillows I received as a gift from my mom from Dreamy Whites.  I realize not everyone may be into the scent of lavender, but it can be very calming, which could be really nice when you’re away from home.  I wrapped it with jute string and added a sprig of lavender for an extra special touch.
So . . . wanna come for a visit?  We’d love to have you!  And just in case you forgot anything, I’ve got it covered!
Thank you for reading!

  2. I am so envious of your awesome vintage suit case. If we see them here they’re either way too expensive or people grab them like hot cakes. I’d sure love to find one. So glad you applied the black gross grain ribbon to stitching, gives it a special custom look. What lucky guests.
So glad you included pic of your precious golden, she is so sweet. Animals are so precious anyway but so sweet to see them snoozing, such innocence, like a baby.
