Tour of Our Nest – Christmas Style

Welcome to our Nest!  I’m taking you on a mini tour of it today.  Since it’s decorated for Christmas, my without a doubt, 100%, absolute, favorite holiday of the year, I figured it was a good time to show you a couple of new rooms (living room and master bedroom), and a few other familiar rooms all decked out for the holiday.

Please come in . . .

This is a little Christmas vignette in our entryway that greets you when you walk in.  It’s the only place in the house that I used fake greenery.  I bought these trees last year and, although I would have liked to have some cypress trees or rosemary trees here, I didn’t want to spend additional money.  I’d rather put that money into gifts or extra money for charity.

We have a tri-level home, so once you’ve come in through our entryway, you’d come up the stairs into the living room and be greeted by our Christmas tree:
The dresser on the right is one of my very first refinishing projects I shared on Transformation Tuesday.
It’s painted in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Louie Blue.

And our lit mantel:
The slipper chair is normally sitting where the Christmas tree is currently, so it looks sort of
awkward in front of the fireplace, but we keep it in the room because we need the extra seating.
Our living room is not “done”, but I could go forever without sharing any of it with you, because are we ever really “done” with a room?  In fact, I have a coffee table sitting in our garage that I trash picked that will go perfectly here, but I haven’t had time to paint it yet.  And the list goes on and on . . .
Our home is not large as you can see, but it’s large enough for us.  We have all we need here:  a roof over our head, food in the cupboards and each other.  Our Nest fits us perfectly!
The light blue velvet chaise in our living room has become a favorite spot for our daughters and I to cuddle up on at night before bed:
The vintage sheet music wreath above it was the first one I ever made so it’s sentimental to me.  It was never perfect in the center, but I found a $1.50 ornament at Target and hot glued it in the center.  A little bling added and a problem solved!

Of course the open shelves and buffet in our dining room got a little red Christmas makeover too:

Don’t you just love this adorable canvas?  If you’d like to get one for your nest, too, my friend, Andrew (Christmas Styling 2012), makes them and they come in different sizes.  He has a lot of other fantastic canvases too!  And he even makes custom canvases with your photo!  Check out his Etsy shop to get yours!

I wanted to fill this cloche with red bulbs, but I ran out.  I remembered I had these vintage spools so I simply wrapped each one with ribbon, hot glued it in place and called it a day.

Overlooking the beverage station is my favorite Santa ever bought for me.  My mother-in-law and I share a common love of the Christmas icon so we typically give each other some sort of Santa gift each for Christmas.  She gave me this handsome guy a few years ago and I love his rustic look.  He’s hanging out near the adult beverages to check on who’s being naughty or nice.  So you better watch out!

I used a tray from last year’s Winter Mantel to add extra whimsy to the shelves:

Also in our dining room, I added another boxwood wreath to our pantry wall

and a few jingle bells with floral wire to make it festive.

Now I’ll lead you in to our Master Bedroom, which is being revealed for the first time.

We love this room!  The color on the walls is Benjamin Moore’s New Hope Grey.  Friends of ours have it on the walls of their master and we fell in love with it.  Our bedroom has been this way for over 3 years now and we love the calming color.  I painted it when I was 8 months pregnant with our first born.  There’s no doubt I was in full “nesting” mode at the time.

The quilt and wool blanket were recent scores on a shopping trip to my favorite antique mall!

It’s a Wonderful Life.  Yes.  Yes, it certainly is!

Thank you for stopping by our Nest.  It is always a delight to have you here.  You are always welcome!

Thank you for reading!

  1. Many very cool vignettes. I love the vintage.

  2. Your home is so welcoming. Love your laid back and great decorating with all your wonderful vignettes. I’m a vignette person myself. Love to change things out for seasons or just cause I feel like it.
Love your entry way, really makes me feel like I’d love to come in to visit. You’re lucky to have an entryway. When you come in our front door (we have a 16/80 single wide) you’re in the living room, bang.
Think the only house we’ve ever had with a sizable entry was our house in KY.
I still miss that house, It was all I’d wanted for room. It was 1500 sq. feet with 3 bdrms. 1 1/2 baths. Had a dining room, nice sized living room, a sun room off the l/r. Our laundry was in our 1/2 bath but it never bothered me.
When we were going to move to KY my oldest son that lived there bought the house and completely renovated it. We had 1 1/2 acres of lots of grass & trees, a stream between our place and farm land next door. A row of pine trees between us and house on other side. All kinds of bushes, plants, you name it,could grow pretty much anything there.
I really loved our place but the climate was terrible for my allergies, asthma and arthritis. We had a wonderful big front porch and did I ever enjoy decorating that, spending time on it.
Oh well sorry for going on and on. We’ve been in CO for over 8 yrs. now but I still miss our house and land outside Bowling Green. Our son doesn’t live in KY any more, he moved back to San Diego area over 3 yrs ago so guess it’s good thing we didn’t stay there.
Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas, Happy New year. I love your blog.
