‘Tis the Season – Outdoor Holiday Decorations Link Party

It’s my turn!  I’m thrilled to be hosting the Outdoor Holiday Decorations Link Party as part of our series today!

When Stacey invited all of us to be a part of this Holiday Link Party series, I immediately raised my hand to do the outdoor decor.  Pick me.  Pick me.  I’ll do it.  Let the truth be told, it’s only because I already had most of it done by the time she sent the email.  We had a string of 50 degree days around here, so I took advantage of the awesome weather before mean Old Man Winter decided it was finally time to take over.
It wasn’t just the party that had me excited, however.  Christmas also happens to be my absolute favorite holiday.  I love the lights, the music, the scent of pine in the air, the food (mostly the cookies, of course), family gatherings, classic Christmas movies, Christmas cards, wrapped presents, and most of all, I love the twinkle in everyone’s eye.  It’s a magical time of year.
With that said, I’d like to start by warmly welcoming you to the newly decorated front door of The Ironstone Nest:
I found this window at a yard sale about two years ago for $2.

I painted it in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Pure White, distressed it a little, and because the glass is missing from the center window, it was very easy to attach a pine wreath to it with floral wire.  I also added a few birch trunks in the corner and simply leaned them up against our house.
But that wasn’t enough.  The window still needed something.
So I found some wood in our garage and made a sign to hang from it.

Aha!  Now that’s much better.
And because I couldn’t decide on which saying I wanted, I painted the other side, too.

And now I’ll walk you down to our “side door”, which is technically a front door, also, located next to our garage, but I call it the side door.  It’s also the door mostly everyone comes through . . .

We made an arch out of birch trunks.  The sides are about 8″ tall and the one across the top is about 4′.  The hubby simply screwed the top trunk (from behind) into each post on the side.
My original thought was to wrap the birch arch in lights, but then I decided I didn’t want to see the wires from the lights during the daytime.  I wanted to keep this display as natural and organic as possible.

The balsam wreath is plain and simple.  I added a plaid bow and a little chalkboard ornament because I thought it’d be fun to change the message whenever it was appropriate.  Here are some fun ideas for ya’:

And then we’ll walk around to our back door.  Oh, you really didn’t think I could leave our back door alone, did you?

We have a chalkboard outside our back door for no other reason other than I am simply obsessed with chalkboards.  (See my Pinterest Board titled Chalkboards and our Kitchen Reveal and you’ll quickly agree.)  This one is made from an old cabinet door.  If you look closely, you can see the holes for the old knob and hinges.  I heart re-purposing!

So now it’s your turn!  I cannot wait to see your outdoor holiday decor.
The party will be open until next Wednesday, December 19th.  Please be sure to include the link back button below in your post and tell all of your friends about the party!  The more the merrier!  ‘Tis the season, you know?

But . . . before you start linking away, I’d like to give a big “thank you” to Stacey at Embracing Change for inviting The Ironstone Nest to take part in this awesome link party series.  I am completely honored and grateful to be among such a tremendously talented group of bloggers!
I’d also like to say to all of you, from our Nest to yours: Merry Christmas.  I wish you and your families a very happy, peaceful and healthy holiday season.

Thank you for reading!
