Hello. My name is Laura and I have a hoarding problem.
Aaaaahhhhh! I dreaded showing this picture to you. Ugh. But it was the only way to drive the point home. Yes. That is our one car garage stuffed floor to ceiling with antiques, curbside finds and purchases that never should have been made.
Do you know that commercial for IKEA? It ran last year? Where the lady drives up to her house in a semi and she jumps out of the cab and yells to her husband: “They were having a sale!”? My hubby laughs every time we see that commercial because it reminds him of someone he knows. Eh-hem. I have no idea who that could be? I have a difficult time passing up a bargain, it’s true. What can I say? And free? If it’s on the curb, it’s coming home with me. Darnit, someone needs to give that piece of furniture a good home.
This is what happens when I find out that it’s “move out day” on campus. College kids toss furniture out on the curb that they no longer want or don’t want to move. I took 3 trips to campus that day and this was everything I brought home. And I’m not alone in that, I swear. There are people with moving vans and trailers picking up furniture by the truck full. It’s serious business and I’ve actually seen people fighting over items they find.
Needless to say, it’s time for me to have a sale. Yep, that’s right. I’m hosting my very first sale right here at our nest. I never imagined I would do it. In fact, people have encouraged me to host my own sale and I’ve always shrugged them off. But I’d like to park our car in our garage this winter, you know what I mean?
As some of you may recall, I’ve participated in Nellie’s Barn Sale in the past, but with our baby due this past Spring, it just didn’t work out . . . but I still kept collecting furniture. (By the way, if you live in the Rockford, Illinois area, their Fall sale is happening again on October 12th & 13th. You should check it out!) And the furniture and vintage items kept piling up and piling up and now it’s spilling over into our basement. It’s time to take our house back!
I’ve been working really hard, every nap time and after the babes are in bed, for hours on everything in our garage from an antique desk to dressers without drawers to reupholstered stools and chairs to farmhouse inspired signs. I also have a lot of fantastic trash-to-treasure transformations, one-of-a-kind refurbished antique furniture pieces and lots and lots of vintage items! Pretty much everything like what you’ve seen from me in the past (only more this time): The Big Reveal, Day Two, Before and Afters – Fall Sale 2011, Executive Desk, Vintage Rocking Chair and Scenes from the Flea . . .
I even have another fantastic vintage/antique vendor setting up with me. I’ve admired this vendor for years and recently learned she lives right in my neighborhood, so we’re getting together to bring you a great sale. It turns out that I’m not the only one with a hoarding problem! KD Cakes (pronounced katie cakes) will even be here selling gourmet cupcakes that day too. And who wouldn’t love some cake for breakfast?
I don’t have any expectations for this sale. I have to clear out our house so this seemed to be the logical thing to do. If it’s successful and people want us to do it again, awesome! (Although it would just perpetuate my hoarding problem ) If not, well then, hopefully, at least, some of the unwanted furniture I’ve found and transformed will go to a loving, new home!
If you live near Madison, WI and would like our address to attend this sale, please send me an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. It would be really wonderful to have you here!
Thank you for reading!
