DIY Nursery Sign

Once in a while I like to write a post that points out just how fabulous and inspirational you bloggers out there can be by posting a few projects that “wow” me.  I haven’t done it in quite some time, but I’m going to get back to those posts.  Pinky swear.  There’s just too much inspiration out there not to point it out.

In one of those very posts, I showed you how much I loved this project from Laura at the Corner House:

Corner House, August 2011

Yes, the post where I mention her project is dated August 24, 2011 (You People Amaze Me! and an Update) and I finally got around to putting it together last week (although it wasn’t for our basement).  Geez, I’m really quick, aren’t I?

Some of you may even recall that I posted the following teaser photo on Facebook and Twitter on June 6th:

Only I took a different spin on her project.

When I began updating our nursery to incorporate a little more “boy” than “girl”, one of the things I did was take the “dream” sign down from above the window:

But then it felt really naked up there to me.  I wanted to replace the dream sign with something else.  I also knew I wanted something with texture, but what?  And then I remembered Laura’s project.  A ha!

So I grabbed some old, weathered wood we have sitting out by our shed.  I like to keep wood out there so it gets properly exposed to the elements.  I chose just two pieces to use and then cleaned them up with some bleach, soapy water and a scrub brush.

Here is my interpretation of Laura’s project:

You can see some of the texture of the wood in this photo:

I used enamel paint I had in my supplies, a stipple brush and stencils I ordered from Stencils Online (Papyrus 4″ lowercase only).

A little love sign now sits above the nursery window and it’s all because of inspiration from a fantastic blogger!  Thank you Laura!
I’ll share more pictures of our updated nursery this week, along with a Ballard Designs knock off project.  Who loves Ballard Designs?  This girl!!
By the way, I’m still accepting guest posts.  If you’re interested in guest posting here, please read my S.O.S. – Calling All Bloggers post and send it along.  I’d love to have you here!
Have a great Tuesday and as always,

Thank you for reading!

XOXO
Laura
