An Executive Desk

Sometimes, all I have time for is a short “before” and “after” and today is one of those days . . .
This was a gorgeous, old desk with some fabulous vintage knobs:

Can you see all of the scratches and scrapes?

It had been a long time since this desk received the respect it deserves.

I painted the body Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Country Grey.  This color is amazing.  It’s not receiving the attention it deserves.  It’s a beautiful, dark, warm beige.
I sanded the top and stained it in Minwax Early American and then painted the drawer fronts with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White for a change of pace.

I put the pulls back on and took a step back to snap a picture.  Do you notice what I saw?  Yep, the upper left-hand pull is upside down and the cross bar on the double drawer on the left looks silly painted in Old White.  So I grabbed my paint brush, painted the cross bar in Country Grey, and the hubby put the pull in the correct position.
And here’s the “after” shots:

I wish I had more time this week to stage this desk properly!

  1. Hi Laura!
saw your desk on MMS and it really caught my attention ’cause I just finished a ladies dressing table yesterday also in teo ASCP colors. I’m not feeling well today but I did post a couple pictures of it on my blog if you want to check it out. Anyway… your desk turned out great!

  2. Looks beautiful! I get so confused re: the ASCP colors. It’s difficult to order when that happens so I continue down the path of avoidance. :-)

  3. gorgeous! i love the two toned look with the wood top- it looks very cottagey!
