Rare Sunday Post

I don’t normally blog on the weekends.  It’s family time.  And I also don’t share my personal views very often on this blog for multiple reasons.  Today, however, I am taking a detour from the norm by doing both: posting on a Sunday and sharing something very personal with you.

“Dare You to Move” by Switchfoot is one of my favorite songs of all time.  Ever heard it?  The words are incredibly poignant and I love the way it’s written.  If you’ve never heard it, I’m not sure simply reading the words here will do it justice, but here it is:

Welcome to the planet
Welcome to existence
Everyone’s here
Everyone’s here
Everybody’s watching you now
Everybody waits for you now
What happens next?
What happens next?

I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened before

Welcome to the fallout
Welcome to resistance
The tension is here
The tension is here
Between who you are and who you could be
Between how it is and how it should be

I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened

Maybe redemption has stories to tell
Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell
Where can you run to escape from yourself?
Where you gonna go?
Where you gonna go?
Salvation is here

I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself, to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened before

The song has always resonated with me.  My favorite lines in the song are:

Welcome to the fallout
Welcome to resistance
The tension is here
The tension is here
Between who you are and who you could be
Between how it is and how it should be

We face that tension everyday, in every action, between what we could do and what we should do, how it is and how it could be.  “Salvation is here.”  For quite some time now, there’s been a very strong tugging at my heart strings.  A tugging from all different directions and sources, but the tugging is to do “something” to help make this world a better place.  I know I can’t change the world, but I can alter what I do to make my actions for the better.  Abuse has been very close to my heart for years.  When I read this story (Four Arrested in Death of Phoenix Girl) the other day, it reawakened that flame inside of me.  I realize that even while I’m typing this post, there are people all over the world that are suffering from many, many things, but I cannot stand the thought of a young child being abused at the hands of those who were meant to protect them!  It absolutely sickens me!!

While I think what I’ve come up with, for the moment, is too small of an offering in the big scheme of things, it is a step in the right direction:  From this day forward, B & B’s Nest pledges to give 10% of everything it makes to Child Abuse Prevention and Education.  Anything you purchase from B & B’s Nest, whether it’s something from the Etsy shop, or from one of my sales, 10% of everything you purchase will go towards helping children without a voice.

B & B’s Nest is not sharing this information to receive accolades, or to guilt you in to doing anything.  By no means is that the message I am trying to send.  B & B’s Nest is sharing this with you because the time is now to do “something”, no matter how small or how big and to, hopefully, inspire maybe one other person to do that “something” that’s been tugging at their heart strings too!

  1. Very poignant, Laura. Anything to do with children is close to my heart…along with the military, animals, etc. This is a wonderful gesture from your heart I know!
